One of the most important figures in African-American history, Larry Doby will be remembered for breaking the color barrier in the American League in 1947. During a 13-year major league playing career, Doby was a reliable outfielder who earned seven All-Star selections. In 1948, he batted .301 with 14 home runs and 66 runs batted in and helped the Indians win the World Series when he hit the game-winning home run in the fourth game of the series. With many courageous achievements marking his life, Doby will be fondly remembered.
